Essential Question: Can we leave it up to destiny?
Audience: 8th/9th Grade Biology Students
Rational: The main purpose of this unit is to make students aware of the various aspects that affect their bodies and their everyday life.Nutritional awareness is one part of the unit, but a lot of time is permitted to it because of its affects on the students’ lives now and in the future.While going over nutritional facts, health effects, nutritional up keeping, the digestive system and skeletal systems are covered and discussed thoroughly to emphasize their contribution.This is done so that the students can be aware of the different ways to keep their bodies healthy, how their bodies function and more importantly what their bodies require to be healthy.
Essential Understanding:
Every action has a reaction and the foods they consume have a positive as well as a negative effect on their bodies.
I want students to know:
Digestive pathway
Food groups
Enzymes
Mechanisms
Outcomes/outputs
Skeletal System
Muscles
I want my students to be able to:
Evaluate their current life habits and styles
Select methods to improve their health/life
Assess different options of improving their health
